2025 Blues in the Woods Festival!

Welcome to the second-ever Blues in the Woods Festival, where the rhythm runs wild. Get ready for electrifying performances and even better vibes. Last year, the music roared, the crowd swayed, and the Woods came alive with the soul of the blues. This year, we are doing it all again! Join us on Saturday, August 23, from 4 pm to 9 pm at Johnston Park for an unforgettable evening featuring the “Legendary Blues Diva” Thornetta Davis and her Band, Tino Gross and the Dumpster Machine, the winner and crowd favorite from our Concert Series in the Park, and the MC of the night, Rick Steiger, founder and saxophonist of the Sun Messengers. Thornetta Davis was crowned Detroit’s Queen of the Blues in 2015 by the Detroit Blues Society. She is an internationally acclaimed recording artist. She has shared the stage with B.B. King, Ray Charles,
Etta James and Bonnie Raitt. Her powerful voice and soulful storytelling have earned her many awards in her lifetime, and Thornetta continues to captivate audiences worldwide keeping the spirit of the “Blues” alive. Tino Gross and the Dumpster Machine. Tino “G” was born and raised in Detroit and recorded with many music giants, including Kid Rock, George Clinton, Bo Diddley, Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, and many others. Tino’s Band will also be joined by a “special guest guitarist”… our own City Manager – John Szymanski. So please join us for some rock and roll, blues, and a bit of “Funky Detroit.” Bring your blankets, pack your coolers, and claim your spot in the park early because this is an event you won’t want to miss. In addition to the mesmerizing music, the festival will showcase a vibrant display of art available for purchase,
activities for the whole family, food trucks, and 21+ Sips and Spirits, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Families are encouraged to attend, as a day filled with engaging activities is being planned to keep everyone entertained. This will be a perfect opportunity to relax, unwind, and connect with neighbors in the beautiful surroundings of Harper Woods. Mark your calendars and get ready for a day of community, culture, and exceptional entertainment. Please view the City Calendar at www.harperwoodscity.org for event updates and itineraries.

We can’t wait to see you there!
