New Inclusive Playground Now Open!

A new Inclusive Playground is now open to the public on the grounds of the Clinton Township Civic Center at Romeo Plank and Canal!

A message from Clinton Township:

“The effort to add a specialized playground featuring universal design concepts to accommodate the physical and intellectual abilities of 4,600 individuals living in Clinton Township began in late 2019, when the Township’s Board of Trustees sanctioned the Inclusive Playground Committee and approved donating space for the project near the main branch of the Clinton-Macomb Public Library.

Numerous fundraising efforts organized by the committee culminated in 2023, with state legislators securing passage of a $1 million appropriation bill to accelerate the construction timeline. Last May, the Township Board of Trustees approved the addition of the final $300,000 needed to reach the $1.4 million total needed to break ground.

Nearly 25 percent of Macomb County’s families with a person with a disability live in Clinton Township, which is home to 11 percent of the County’s population. Gieleghem describes the park as a place designed for everyone but built to accommodate those with disabilities.”
