The Insider asked Johnetta Tabron to share her belief in supporting your community by volunteering. She replied, “I am Johnetta Tabron, a resident of the City of Harper Woods since 2005. I moved here with my husband, Reginald and our two sons, Willie and Reginald Jr. We chose this community because it was small and peaceful. We fell in love with the parks and the baseball program.
I first started volunteering with the NUMEN basketball program that was held during the summer months. Next, I volunteered for the girls softball team at Harper Woods High School. I really enjoyed working with the girls and helping the team progress. In 2022, I ran for the Harper Woods Board of Education. I did this because I love children. I am currently the Secretary of the Board. My mission is to help children stay on the right course. Currently, I am the Vice-President of the Neighborhood Economic Development Coalition (NEDC). Our mission is to help the residents of the city to come together and socialize. This is very important in our community.
I am a devoted wife and caring mother who loves spending time with family and friends. Some of my hobbies are making things, cooking and dancing. I am currently employed and looking forward to retirement in about two years. After that, Harper Woods here I come! My mission is to continue to volunteer and help the residents of Harper Woods. The reason I volunteer is because I love the way it makes the community look and how residents feel. It makes me feel good too! I would love for more residents to volunteer for the city. There are a lot of boards and commissions in Harper Woods that need good people and that could be you… Come on people, don’t talk about it, be about it. Help your neighbors and your community!”
