The City of Harper Woods Turns 75!

This year has special significance for our community. On October 29, 1951, Harper Woods officially became a city and adopted its City Charter. This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the City that we proudly call home. This serves as a remarkable milestone that reflects generations of growth, resilience, and community spirit.

To honor this occasion, the City is planning a series of commemorative events and activities that celebrate our shared history while looking ahead to a vibrant future. From June through November 2026, the City of Harper Woods will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of its incorporation with a six-month season of signature events under the theme “75 Years Strong | Celebrating Community, Culture, and Connection.”

These celebrations will highlight what makes Harper Woods unique: strong neighborhoods, dedicated residents, and a deep sense of community pride. Building on last year’s success, we will continue our Community Concert Series at Johnston Park and our popular Family Movie Nights at WCCCD Mary Ellen Stempfle University Center. These events offered free opportunities for neighbors to gather, relax, and enjoy entertainment close to home.

Throughout the season, residents will enjoy community concerts, movie nights, youth activities, wellness events, National Night Out, Harvest Fest & Maker Market, and the signature Blues in the Woods Festival. Featured performers will include the Harper Woods All Star Jazz Ensemble, Urban Art Orchestra, Laura Rayne Band, Groove Session, and more.

The City welcomes all residents, families, and friends to participate in this exciting season. The 75th Anniversary season is more than a celebration. It is an opportunity to honor longtime residents, welcome new families, support local and regional talent, strengthen community partnerships, and create new traditions for the future. Your presence helps continue the traditions that make The City of Harper Woods such a special place.

Together, let us make this summer and this historic anniversary year one to remember!
