GROSSE POINTE FARMS – The Helm has completed construction on The Helm Wilson Day Center, a new Adult Day Program designed to support older adults living with cognitive decline and various forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, while also providing meaningful support for caregivers.
Located at 648 St. Clair in the heart of “The Village,” The Helm Wilson Day Center will offer a safe,
welcoming environment where participants can engage in enrichment activities, wellness programming and social connection during the day.
“We’ve heard from caregivers in our community who are looking for more support,” said Krista Siddall, executive director of The Helm. “The Helm Wilson Day Center was thoughtfully developed in response to that need, creating a place where participants can stay engaged and caregivers can feel confident and supported. The Helm Wilson Day Center is the first program of its kind serving the Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods and was made possible through strong community support, including the passage of the senior services millage and the continued generosity of local donors. This has truly been a collaborative effort between The Helm and Henry Ford Health and the name pays homage to Ralph and Mary Wilson’s legacy of supporting older adults in the community.”
In addition to engaging daytime programming, the center will place a strong emphasis on caregiver support. Services will include access to resources, support groups, and guidance around care planning—ensuring caregivers feel supported, informed and connected.
To introduce the new space to the community, The Helm will host a ribbon cutting with the Grosse
Pointe Chamber of Commerce at 10 am, Friday, May 1, followed by an open house 12 to 4 pm.
Community members are invited to tour the center, meet staff and learn more about the program and upcoming enrollment opportunities.
The Adult Day Program is expected to begin with a limited pilot group of participants starting May 13, with additional details on enrollment to be shared in the coming weeks. For more information on
enrollment, call (313) 882-9600.
“A great deal of thought went into how this space would function day to day,” Siddall said. “From the
layout to the programming, everything is designed to support engagement, structure and meaningful interaction for participants.”
